L 180 F

Deviation means difference but it can be interpreted in two principal ways. In everyday context we consider a person deviant if his or her behaviour, habits, acts etc. deviate from our own values. In stientific sense the word means abberation, difference from moral rules, social traditions, conventions. According to the Oxford Dictionary deviationist means a person who deviates especially from the principles of a social or political system.

We are all different from each other in a way but it just means that we are all individualities. To a certain extent everybody wants to be diverse or even we do not do it intentionally each person is distinct that is why each of us has his or her own personality. But this way of is of course tolerated by our surroundings. If it is more than this, if a person's behaviour really differs from the generally accepted ones we can talk about deviation.

There are several kinds of manner which we can call eccentric, deviant, but there are some main sorts of it, for example alcoholism, drug-addiction, suicide, crime, perversity, etc.

Alcoholics, drug-addicts are considered to be abnormal, deviant persons, because they depend on drugs or alcohol, and even their everyday acts, thoughts are determined by these things instead of normal factors. The users are subbordinated, so their motivations are different from the general ones. This dependence determines their behaviours, their whole lives.

Crime is deviant as well because it is condemned by the society both legally and morally. One must be distorted morally or mentally if he or she causes damage to anyone on purpose.

An extreme case of deviation is committing suicide. Alcoholism and drug-addiction belong to suicide in a way but those are not so conscious things. Suicide is extreme because it is absolutely intentional.

It is very difficult to explain why one become deviant. It depends on a lot of things, first of all on the surroundings : mainly on the family, on the friends because these things necessarily influence our lives. But it is proved that these freaks can be not only "acquired" but also genetically inherited. Experiences were performed to demonstrate that these uncanny behaviours can be innate. Children were taken away from alcoholic parents and given to families living among normal circumstances. These children - whose parents were alcoholics - became alcoholics in larger proportion. That does not mean - of course -that these are inevitably inheritable features, but it can contribute in a particular extent.

Deviation can be expressed deliberately or not deliberately depending on if it is a purpose to let people know that one has unusual, uncanny thoughts, etc. or not. Within this it can be illustrated in several ways : with the hair-style, with the dress, with the way of speaking or writing, with gestures, etc.

Deviation generally means something derogatory, we use it when we want to express something pejorative. As far as I am concerned I do not think we should consider these people as they were negative in some ways. Of course I am not talking about alcoholics etc., but about the people who are strange or maybe not usual, if they wear special clothes or have strange hair-style, etc. although a lot of people condemn them. I think everyone can represent his or her own individuality and everyone has to find the proper way of it.
